Clip 0.9.2 is ready!

Contributed by nestormateo on Mar 30, 2012 - 02:09 PM

As many of you already know, I've had a lot of fun recently with my son; now it's his time to spend with his godparents, because I'm going off for more than a week and I need him to be in good hands, playing and having fun.

Clip 0.9.0 released!

Contributed by nestormateo on Feb 19, 2012 - 07:43 PM

It's my pleasure to introduce you all to my loved newborn son: Clip 0.9.0.
I'm too young to be a father, but the time finally came, and I'm rather proud of it. With such cool grandparents like Marco Kundert and Jørn Wildt, who provided the code and the concept years ago, it's a healthy child with a lot of potential. Now the community must give it all the love possible to grow healthy, and improve its features and possibilities.

ModuleStudio 0.5.4 has been released

Contributed by Guite on Nov 28, 2011 - 12:25 PM

We are happy to announce that a new version of ModuleStudio is available. The new version includes many bugfixes and minor improvements, but also some new features.

Pushed by some discussions in the German Zikula forums we realised an import from table structures of existing modules into ModuleStudio. Together with Robert Gasch we implemented that quite quickly and reasonable by using a bridge via XML files. But there are some more exciting news...

Cozi Migration

Contributed by drak on Jul 15, 2011 - 10:58 PM

It's time for everyone to consider migrating away from the Cozi for module project hosting. Github provides absolutely everything and more than what we have at code.zikula.org. The integration between github and the Cozi is also clumsy from a technical standpoint and very processor intensive since we need to clone and sync each GIT repository hosted at github with the Trac in separate databases. The service is extremely resource intensive and requires a lot of baby sitting from a maintenance point of view.

Even though a few people might prefer like subversion over GIT, even github provides SVN hosting through a seamless bridge system at Github, where you can access git repositories using your normal subversion client.

Development Made Social

Contributed by drak on Apr 21, 2011 - 08:03 PM

A few months ago, the core development team made a group decision which changes the dynamics of Zikula development to create a more open and community friendly development process. Until now, the title core developers were meant someone with commit access to our source repositories. This is a historical fact born from having used Subversion for source control.

Traditionally, projects that use centralised permission based source control like Subversion or CVS, if you want to contribute you either have to make manual patches or request commit access to the source control repository. Both of these ways are barriers because manual patches are slow to verify, and to get commit access usually requires a great deal of trust which has to be earned. Not only that, commit access is usually reserved for those who make a commitment to the project. This makes casual participation difficult.

Now that we use GIT source control we thought it was time to really take advantage of the open and collaborative qualities GIT brings to us by adopting the "contributor/collaborator workflow".

Cozi terms and conditions

Contributed by drak on Mar 26, 2011 - 01:18 PM

The "Cozi", code.zikula.org is a free service the Zikula Project provides to anyone wanting to develop extensions for Zikula. It provides a tools-set of issue tracker, wiki, download area, subversion/GIT repository hosting, repository browser and so on. However, of late, this service has been under attack from both automated and manual content spammers who use issue tracking to report 250-500 word articles loaded with links. If you are a project owner, you need to read this article because you need to take some action in your project administration.

Footnote: Since publishing this article, Github have revamped their issue tracking - see the blog

Media module - Sponsored Development

Contributed by rallek on Mar 02, 2011 - 07:52 AM

After the great success of the Scribite sponsoring and considering discussions during the last Camp Zikula the German Zikula association's managing committee has launched another - even more comprehensive - sponsoring. With the new Zikula version a very powerful core will be available, many modules are already being updated. For example a mighty successor of Pagesetter is developed with Clip, but also other modules (e.g. News, Content, PostCalendar, etc.) were and are being cleaned up for the new core.

The whole topic of media management is outdated though; MediaAttach and Mediashare are the two currently most used media modules, but next to it there are also many other special solutions (e.g. UserPictures, Relay, SimpleGallery, Avatar and crpVideo). Not any of these modules is completely ready for being used with 1.3, some of them won't ever cope with it maybe.

For success of the coming Zikula version it is however required in our opinion to start a modern and sustainable successor for Mediashare and MediaAttach (during discussion also the Downloads section has been added).

Content 3.2 is released

Contributed by espaan on Nov 22, 2010 - 01:18 AM

Development of the Content module is alive again.
Content is a page editing module. Each page has a specific layout and can contain Content Items such as HTML text, videos, maps and more.

The 3.2 release is a major release with a lot of bugfixes and enhancements and is meant for Zikula Core 1.2.x. As you can read in the changelog in the ExtDB, it has been a combined effort of several people. I have picked up the task of getting a new version out there and making sure tickets are being solved. But also thanks to Sven (mrtux), Carsten (herrr.vorragend) a lot of improvement has been made.

Summary of the main changes:

  • Permission checks are updated
  • Cloning a page and restoring deleted pages is now possible
  • Several new plugins are available (OpenStreet maps, camtasia videos, breadcrumb trail)
  • The Google maps plugin has been updated
  • More layout templates to choose from
  • A lot of layout updates and nicer look & feel
  • It's a lot easier to enable/disable a page and enable/disable use in the menus
  • Several database tables now have indexes for more speed
  • A introduction article is created on a fresh install
